Level 1 Award in Introduction to Health & Social Care (Children & Young People Settings)

Course Aims

The Level 1 Award in Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings aims to develop learners’ knowledge and awareness of health, social care and children’s and young people’s settings. It is aimed at learners in school or college who wish to develop an understanding of the similarities and differences between these settings.

Qualification Objective

To gain this qualification, learners must achieve a minimum of 10 credits: 
• 6 credits from the mandatory units
• a minimum of 4 credits from the optional units.

About the Qualification

This qualification is aimed at:

  • Learners who wish to develop an understanding of these settings before deciding whether working in the sector is for them
  • Learners who want to gain the knowledge, understanding and skills required for employment and/or career progression in the sectors
  • Helping learners to tailor their learning to their interests through the provision of a broad range of optional units
  • Providing opportunities for the development of transferable skills
  • Supporting progression to Level 2 qualifications in health, social care or children’s settings
  • Providing learners with the opportunity to progress to employment, in due course, in a range of job roles in the care sectors.
  • Course Length

    • Level 1 Award: 4-6 months involving 4 monthly teaching days (or 8 evening sessions) plus assessment time and independent study.

    Assessment for each level will be through the completion of a digital e-portfolio of evidence, workbook study tasks, evaluation of learning and workplace observations. (Workplace observations not required for Level 2 Award).

  • Course Cost

    • £475 (Level 1 Award)

    There may be opportunities for funding, subject to conditions. I

    If you are 19+ unemployed or earning below £20,962 (inner London) or £17,004 (outer London) and it’s your first level 2 qualification, you may be eligible for full funding.

    If you are not eligible, please talk to us about payment plans, to spread the cost of your training. A deposit will be required.

  • Eligibility

    here are no formal entry requirements for this course, but you must be aged over 18 and either employed or have regular access to a youth work environment.If you are taking the Level 1 Award there is no need for a youth work placement.

    We recommend that you have a good command of literacy and numeracy before enrolling on these courses. We can provide support for this through our programme of online and classroom study for English, Maths and ICT.

    All new entrants to the sector must be willing to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check; you can not start studying until you have proof of this.
