The UK is a world leader in green skills and has been developing its workforce in this area since 2019. There has been rapid growth in green hiring, almost double the global average.

However, there is still a skills shortage in this area, and we are looking to support this rapid growth by encouraging people to explore the industry, through a series of courses.

Family Learning in Merton is a funded programme that provides parents and carers with workshops and courses to help develop their knowledge and practical skills to better support their child's development and understanding.

It also provides learning opportunities that will teach parents health and wellbeing techniques, as well as how to use creative play, so that they can encourage their children and families to develop healthier creative lifestyles.

Need 2 Succeed in partnership with Merton Adult Learning has designed Course 2: some entry level courses to:

• Raise awareness of the Green Skills Industry
• Offer access routes to further learning
• Provide you with an introduction to employers

Course 1:Understanding and Working in Permaculture Environments

This course is aimed at those looking to develop their skills, knowledge, and understanding of permaculture and horticulture with a view of accessing employment in this sector. It provides you with access to potential job market opportunities in areas such as landscaping, garden design, green space management, and the commercial environment.

Course 2: Understanding Green Skills and The Built Environment

In today's world, the integration of green practices and sustainability principles into the built environment is of paramount importance. "Understanding Green Skills and The Built Environment" is a comprehensive and dynamic course that delves into the critical intersection of sustainable development, environmental consciousness, and the construction industry.

This course provides students with a deep understanding of the concepts, techniques, and skills required to navigate and thrive in the evolving green economy, particularly within the context of the built environment. It equips learners with the knowledge and tools necessary to address the complex challenges posed by climate change and resource depletion.

Course 3: Shaping a Career in the Green Industries

This course will cover several areas and support learners in exploring the world of green skills. It is designed to encourage an understanding of the different work environments, careers, and how to access further training or work. Green Skills is one of the fastest-growing employment areas in the UK. We invite you to come and be part of the story!

Baby Yoga: For Parents and babies up to 6 months

While you learn techniques to relax, release stress, mobilise, and build strength safely, your baby will enjoy gentle and playful moves and exercises, along with massage and songs to support their developmental stages through yoga. You will develop core stability through breath and movement; learn simple moves to stretch, restore, and tone while bonding and relaxing.

Family Arts and Crafts

During these sessions, you will receive both group and individual support to create unique and beautiful art and crafts that could be perfect to give as a gift to someone special or to keep as a special memory.

You and your child can choose from various projects. That may include modelling clay, painting, or sewing projects.

Talking To Teens - Positive Parenting

"Talking to Teens" is a dynamic and interactive course that combines theory and practical exercises to enhance your ability to communicate effectively with teenagers, promote their well-being, and guide them towards a successful future.

Whether you are a parent, teacher, mentor, or professional working with teens, this course equips you with the tools and knowledge necessary to engage in meaningful conversations and build stronger relationships with the adolescents in your life.
